Consultants Rolf Erikson and Carolyn Markuson are specialists in school
library program planninig and facilities
design and have participated in over one hundred new and renovated
public and private school library facilities design projects, both in
the U.S. and abroad. Our aim is to help clients make informed choices
when analyzing space requirements and assessing program needs. From
initial conception to completion, we provide expert assistance in
developing program plans; identifying needed spaces and optimal
adjacencies; designing floor plans with traffic patterns, activity
levels, and users in mind; working with architects; and identifying and
specifying interior furnishings that make school libraries functional,
inviting, ergonomic and ADA compliant. Our
projects range from
small to large, from helping to refurbish a small elementary school
library, to
working on all levels of the library design development process for
large
school districts. We pride ourselves on our professionalism,
responsiveness to
client needs, cost-effectiveness, and client satisfaction. Our book,
“Designing
a School Library for the Future,” published by the American Library
Association, is the text of choice on school library design for school
librarians, graduate library schools, school facilities planners, and
architects.
